  • Moving to Canada for IT work – skillset advice?

    Hello all,

I’m looking for a bit of advice on how to best expand/diversify my skillset. I have a 4-year degree in IT and Business and graduated almost 5 years ago in Ireland. Since then, I’ve been working in a completely unrelated industry in Asia, so no real hands-on IT experience under my belt as of yet. I’m a hard-working fella soon to turn 27, and I feel it’s time to start making a career path.

Currently, I’m 2 months into studying the Comptia Security+ course material and should pass it by the end of next month. It’s challenging but not that hard.

Recently I applied for and got the Canadian working visa and plan on moving to Toronto come next Spring, hence the study for the security+.

What I want to ask is, after the security+ is finished, what can I do to best expand my marketability to potential employers? I’ve been looking at courses on Udemy that involve coding and programming, Linux courses and cloud etc. because my knowledge of these is minimal.

There are so many that it’s hard to know which would be useful, and which ones employers would value the most. So any advice from IT professionals on what I could do would be super appreciated!
